When should I begin college consulting?
The sooner, the better. There is no additional charge for starting earlier, since fees are based on a student’s graduation class. By starting earlier, you will receive advice on curriculum planning, summer activities and ideas to create great learning opportunities. Besides, it gives me a chance to get to know your child over time. When we start to create a college list or brainstorm essay ideas, I know the student well and have seen him/her grow throughout high school. Some families decide to use my counseling services in 9th grade, yet many wait until the start of junior year. The decision is based on what works best for the family.

Is there a limit as to how many times we meet or talk?
Typically, I meet with students 3-4 times during the junior year. However, we will meet as often as necessary to maintain communications and continuity. Additional meetings might include mock interviews or tips on making an effective campus visit. When the application process begins in the summer, we meet on a weekly basis with an established timetable and deadlines.
Do you help with curriculum planning or summer activities?
Students do well in school and in their activities when they are involved in areas that interest them. I work with families to determine a challenging but not overwhelming academic schedule. We will brainstorm ideas to expose students to new concepts and activities.
Do you meet with parents as well?
Yes! We have a partnership in helping a student feel confident and achieve success in the college process. I welcome parent’s insights, questions and concerns. In order to foster strong communications with parents, they are copied on every email sent to the student summarizing our meetings as well as next steps. We will have many conversations and it is my role to offer advice and an objective perspective. I have been through this process many times!
Do you work with the student for all of the essays?
I do not put a limit on the number of application essays. However, I strongly recommend that a student applies to only 10-12 schools and should not exceed that number. The number of schools should also reflect a mix in terms of selectivity. Typically, a student will be writing 9 supplemental essays along with the personal statement (common application essay).
Are you available just for the application process or transferring?
My services include a Senior Application Package for students who already have an established college list. We work on all aspects of the application process including management of timelines, brainstorm and critiquing of essays, review and proofing of applications, mock interviews and assessment of early decision/action application decisions. This service coaches the student from the start of the application phase until final college selection has been made.
I also help students who are considering transferring from their current school. I will evaluate school options and provide assistance throughout the application process.
What are your fees?
Fees are based on your student’s graduation class. Therefore, starting earlier in high school yields the best value. To learn more about my current pricing and to determine your needs and package, please contact me.
