This service provides ongoing guidance and help throughout high school. The college search and application process comes with unlimited meetings, telephone calls and emails. We start with a 90 minute initial consultation with the student and family. The goal is to listen and learn while I:
- Review the student’s academic record, experiences, courses and activities
- Discuss education goals and interest and the overall college process
- Assess standardized testing and which tests to take, timetable and how to prepare
- Identify any special talents, abilities or needs (athletic, artistic or learning difference)
“Every student has strengths and interests that make them who they are…distinct”Bobbi Crocker
The next phase involves:
- Formulating a list of schools appropriate to the student’s abilities and goals considering size, location, environment and academics
- Clarifying the importance of compiling a list of schools that represent a mix of selectivity and merit scholarships
- Advising how to and when to visit colleges and how the interview is conducted
- Practice interviews
- Explore options for summer activities (if appropriate)
- Creating a calendar for college contacts
Once work on applications begins, I guide the student through every step of the process:
- Assess the appropriateness of early applications (Early Decision, Early Action)
- Advice on organization and timelines
- Resume development
- Brainstorm essay topics that reflect the student’s individuality and finding their “story”
- Manage application deadlines and working with the student in proofreading and critiquing the application
Dedicated to the student’s happiness and success, I am available to help following acceptance and final selection to school. Each student receives my personal attention and therefore enrollment is limited.
